Procurement Specialist
The Procurement Specialist is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing the supply of direct materials required to support manufacturing operations. Working closely with the Procurement Manager, this role contributes to purchasing strategies and executes procurement activities that ensure reliable supply, competitive cost, and strong supplier performance.
The Procurement Specialist manages assigned suppliers and categories, translating market information and operational requirements into effective purchasing decisions that support production, inventory, and business objectives.
This role is focused on external supplier coordination and commercial execution, working in close partnership with planning, operations, and inventory functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Sourcing & Purchasing
- Source, negotiate, and procure direct materials in alignment with production requirements, quality standards, and cost targets.
- Develop and execute purchasing strategies informed by market conditions, historical trends, forecasts, and supply risk assessments.
- Lead or support RFIs, RFQs, and RFPs for materials and services as required.
- Translate market intelligence into timely purchasing decisions that protect margin and supply continuity.
Supplier Management & Performance
- Build, manage, and strengthen relationships with key suppliers to ensure reliable supply and competitive positioning.
- Monitor supplier performance across pricing, delivery, quality, and responsiveness, addressing issues proactively.
- Support supplier evaluations, scorecards, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify, qualify, and maintain alternative or backup suppliers for critical materials.
Cost Management & Market Analysis
- Support cost savings and cost avoidance initiatives through negotiation, timing, and sourcing decisions.
- Monitor pricing trends, supply constraints, and market conditions affecting key materials.
- Contribute insights and analysis to support procurement planning and decision-making.
Risk Management & Contracts
- Identify supply, quality, logistics, regulatory, and single‑source risks; implement and support mitigation and contingency plans.
- Escalate emerging risks or disruptions with clear, data‑driven recommendations.
- Assist with contract management, pricing agreements, and supplier communications.
- Ensure commercial terms are clearly documented, understood, and adhered to.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with production, inventory, logistics, and planning teams to align purchasing activities with operational needs
- Provide input to ensure material requirements, specifications, and timelines are clear and achievable
Inventory Support & Reconciliation
- Participate in scheduled inventory counts in collaboration with inventory, warehouse, and finance teams
- Support investigation and reconciliation of inventory variances, including documentation and root cause follow-up.
Systems, Documentation & Governance
- Use ERP and procurement systems effectively to maintain accurate purchasing, pricing, specifications, and supplier data.\
- Ensure units of measure, delivery terms, specifications, and pricing are accurate and verified.
- Maintain purchasing records and sourcing documentation in an audit‑ready state.
- Contribute to the development and adherence of procurement SOPs, controls, and best practices.
- Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies, regulatory requirements, and ethical sourcing standards.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- 2–5 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain coordination, preferably in a manufacturing or regulated environment.
- Experience working with suppliers, purchase orders, and sourcing activities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound commercial judgment.
- Ability to interpret market information and apply it to purchasing decisions.
- Comfortable working cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
- ERP or procurement system software experience.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Commerce, or a related field preferred.
- Relevant industry experience with demonstrated commercial responsibility will be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Progress toward or completion of SCMP and/or CSCL designation considered an asset.

Salary: $65,000 to $70,000
